When he was 7 years old, he bought his first album. By age 10, he had his first guitar. By age 16, music was his obsession. Now at age 22, Joshua Batten is using his talent to share his unique perspective on life with the world.
Joshua’s professional career began in 2013. While finishing Year 12 at Bialik College, he entered Kingston Arts’ Curtain Call showcase, winning the grand prize of a headline show at the Chandelier Room. The show was recorded and released as a demo EP, and was later sold at concerts throughout 2014. With an increasing interest in more focused musical development, Josh enrolled in Melbourne Polytechnic's Bachelor of Music course, graduating in 2016 and walking away as a professional guitarist, arranger and bandleader.
In April 2017, Joshua released his debut mini-album Searching For Answers via Only Blues Music. Since then, it has been given a positive review by The Hard Rock Show on Channel 31, and a review has also been published in BluesMagazine from The Netherlands (See links attached). The songs have also received airplay on 88.3 Southern FM Melbourne, PBS Melbourne’s Roots of Rhythm, Juke Joint and Fret Net, Blues On The Hill & Made In The Shade (3NRG Melbourne), Kaleidoscope Ears (Edge Radio Tasmania), Spoonful Of Blues (RTR FM Perth), Rock & Blues With Irene B (Cairns FM 89.1), Another Blues Is Knocking (Universe Radio Netherlands) and Rock Radio UK.
In June 2017, Searching For Answers reached #17 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Chart and in September, Joshua opened for Russell Morris at the Flying Saucer Club in Elsternwick to a receptive and energetic crowd of 200 people.
Inspired by Classic Rock, Blues, Folk and Progressive Rock, Joshua carries a fire in his heart and a guitar in his hands. Drawing from his experiences, his music provides both an escape and perspective in a complex world.
